Thiruvananthapuram ∙ PSC has decided to appeal to the Supreme Court against the judgment of the High Court Division Bench that the period of rank lists should be extended by at least 3 months. PSC Chairman M. K. Zakir pointed out that the High Court said that the 4-decade-old criteria for extending the rank list should be changed and that this criteria had been upheld by various courts including the High Court in many previous cases. If this is changed for those who are in a few rank lists then those who are in the rank list of previous years can go for the case. If they are also asked to get the benefit of this, the functioning of the PSC will be in jeopardy.

The decision to extend the validity of the rank lists that expired between February 5 and August 3, 2021 till August 4 was questioned in the court. When this was implemented, the candidates had approached the Kerala Administrative Tribunal and the High Court stating that some rank lists were extended for less than 3 months. The Tribunal and the Single Bench of the High Court did not accept the demand of the candidates. It was in the appeal against this that the Division Bench of the High Court ruled in favor of the candidates.

The appellants are those who are in the lists like Last Grade Servant, Women Civil Police Officer, Nurse Grade 2 in Health Service, HSA Arabic (Kasarkot) and HSA Science (Malappuram) in 14 districts. If the verdict is implemented, the last grade would get about 100 vacancies in all 14 districts. There are likely to be only two or three vacancies in other posts.
