The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), a strategic implementation and knowledge partner of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), in collaboration with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), has identified and identified prior skills of 75,000 people in the age group of 18-45 years. A project has been started to upskill them. The objective of this project is to get them approved and encourage them to contribute in nation-building to increase their relevance in the changing job market.

The initiative will be funded by NDMC and Sankalp (World Bank Project under MSDE) and implemented by NSDC. The training has started today with an aim to upskill 25,000 workers in the first phase. The workers will be upskilled in multiple trades in construction, electrical, plumbing, pottery etc.

This will not only expose them to digital literacy and entrepreneurial opportunities, but will also upgrade them in technical skills. Additional benefit of accident insurance for two years will also be provided to the trainees during the training.

The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)/Upskilling program will be implemented in three phases through Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) and their empaneled training providers. In addition, there will be two modes of implementation – RPL through Campus, targeting industrial and traditional clusters and RPL at the employer’s premises in partnership with industries and employers for orientation and training at the employer’s location Will go

Citing the example of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena said that the well being of artisans and workers is needed to increase their relevance in the changing job market. All the stakeholders should come together to complete this mission.

Delhi being the national capital has always been a place for people from different sections of the society to discuss different ideas and NDMC has been one of the leaders working towards improving the quality of life of the workers. I am sure this RPL program will recognize the talent of the youth, hone their skills and give them the respect they deserve.
