Students from engineering background have a burning sensation:

The success percentage of engineering stream students in civil services examination is much higher than that of students studying other subjects. In fact, according to the data released by the UPSC some time ago, students from the highest engineering backgrounds achieve success in this exam. According to these figures, a total of 922 candidates had secured success in the civil services examination in 2019 and 63.12 per cent of these students were from engineering backgrounds. At the same time, 24.18 per cent candidates were from humanities background, 6.61 per cent candidates were from science background and 6.07 per cent from medical background.

In the civil services exam, there is a lot of interest of students from engineering background, but most of the candidates who are successful in this exam choose their optional subject from the humanities stream. In fact, according to a data released by the UPSC, 82.6 per cent of the candidates who were successful in CSE 2019 had chosen their optional subject from the Humanities stream. Apart from this, 85.1% of the candidates who succeeded in CSE 2018 and 85.5% of the candidates who succeeded in CSE 2017 had chosen their optional subject from the Humanities stream.
