Thiruvananthapuram: The PSC has decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the decision of the High Court Division Bench to extend the validity of rank lists by at least 3 months. PS ZC chairman MK Zakir said that the High Court had asked for a change in the four-decade-long norms regarding the extension of the rank list, which had been upheld by various courts, including the High Court, in several previous cases. If this is changed for those in a few rankings, those in previous rankings can go to court. If they want to get the benefit of the doubt, PSC’s work will be in jeopardy.
The decision to extend the validity of rank lists, which expired between February 5 and August 3, 2021, was questioned in court. Candidates had approached the Kerala Administrative Tribunal and the High Court alleging that some rank lists had been extended for less than 3 months when this was implemented. The tribunal and the single bench of the high court did not accept the demand of the candidates. On appeal, the division bench of the high court ruled in favor of the candidates.
The appeal was filed by Last Grade Servant, Women Civil Police Officer, Nurse Grade 2 in Health Service, HSA Arabic (Kasargod) and HSA Science (Malappuram) in 14 districts. If the verdict was implemented, Last Grade would have got about 100 vacancies in 14 districts. Other posts are likely to have two or three vacancies each.
