The state of Odisha has issued detailed guidelines for reopening schools for 11th and 8th class students on October 21 and 25 respectively.

Schools Opening:

The incidence of corona infection is declining in the state of Odisha. Thus permission has been granted to open schools. The Department of Schools and Mass Education yesterday issued instructions to start direct classes in schools for 11th and 8th grade students on October 21st and 25th, respectively. According to a statement issued by the Department of Education, a meeting will be held from October 17 to 24 between the school’s faculty and management committees for 8th grade students with an emphasis on maintaining cleanliness in schools.

In addition, principals have been asked to contact the District Education Officer (DEO) one day prior to the opening of schools. Classes will not be available for the first two days as it has been reported that teachers and board members will hold discussions with students. The special examination will be held on October 27, 28 and 29. According to the government order, classes for 8th class will be held from 9 am to 12:30 pm and for 11th class students from 10 am to 1:30 pm.

Arrangements to be made in schools:
  • Specific markings should be made with 6 feet of space on the floor to ensure community spacing and to manage the queue at the entrance to the premises.
  • Within classrooms, students should be seated at alternate desks at safe distances.
  • Teachers should maintain appropriate social space in the living room and dining area, such as the library.

  • If there is enough space on the school grounds, students can conduct classes there considering safety protocols.
  • Handwashing is a must on all toilets and laundry areas. Hand sanitizer for teachers, students and staff should be mandatory in every classroom.
