Engineers Day is celebrated every year in India on 15th September. Today is also special because today is the birthday of the great engineer and Bharat Ratna M Visvesvaraya, who was one of the great engineers of India. This day is celebrated to pay respect to the engineers of the country and to appreciate their work. 15 September i.e. Engineer Day is dedicated to those people, who have given impetus to development through technology.

Sri Lanka’s star fast bowler Lasith Malinga has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on 14 September 2021. Malinga had already retired before Tests and ODIs. Malinga has taken 107 wickets in 83 international T20Is. 5 wickets for 6 runs has been his best. Lasith Malinga holds the record of taking four wickets in four consecutive balls. He has done this feat twice in international cricket. Malinga achieved this feat for the second time in a T20 match against New Zealand in the year 2019.
This year also the Kejriwal government has banned firecrackers in view of Diwali. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal gave this information by tweeting. Kejriwal said that in view of the dangerous situation of Delhi’s pollution during Diwali for the last 3 years, like last year, a complete ban is being imposed on the storage, sale and use of all types of firecrackers. So that people’s lives can be saved.

South Korea has fined Google $ 177 million (about Rs 1305 crore). Google has been fined for taking advantage of its dominance in the mobile operating system and app market. Recently a bill was passed in South Korea to reduce Google’s monopoly, which has now become law. The special thing is that such a huge fine has been imposed on Google immediately after the implementation of this law.

Zomato co-founder Gaurav Gupta has resigned. He was the head of the supply division in the company. About two months ago, Zomato had listed itself on the stock exchange. Gaurav Gupta had a big role in the company’s IPO. He joined Zomato in the year 2015. He was made the Chief Executive Officer (COO) of the company in the year 2018. Gupta focused on starting Zomato’s nutrition and grocery business.

Former IPS officer Iqbal Singh Lalpura has been appointed as the new chairman of the National Commission for Minorities. Lalpura was till now playing the role of spokesperson of the BJP and comes from the minority Sikh community. Earlier, Gayurul Hasan Rizvi was the chairman of the commission whose term ended in May last year.

The Tamil Nadu government has increased the quota for women in government jobs from 30 percent to 40 percent. State Finance and Human Resource Management Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said gender equality will play a major role in bringing about change and the government will introduce necessary amendments to implement the increase in job quota for women. According to data for 2017-18 provided by the Department of Employment and Training, 2.92 lakh out of 8.8 lakh employees of state government, state government undertakings and local bodies were women.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended North Korea for its unilateral withdrawal from the recently concluded Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The IOC also accused North Korea of helping nearly 100 members of the Olympic community from Afghanistan leave the Taliban-controlled country on humanitarian visas.
